100 Interview Questions

The following 100 questons are some of the most popular asked by interviewers.

To increase your chances of success, it is a good idea to prepare for the interview by using the STAR-L approach when responding to interview questions:

Situation: Outline a situation where you developed a particular experience or used the required skills or qualities.
Task: What was your role and what did you have to do?
Action: What did you do and how did you do it?
Result: What did you achieve? What were the results?
Learning: What did you learn from the experience. How would you do it differently next time?

Wherever possible, strategically lead the conversation towards the topics you have particular strengths in, so highlighting your good points.

  • How would you describe yourself?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years time?
  • What goals, includng those related to your career, have you set yourself?
  • Describe a time when you had to make a complaint.  What was the situation, what did you say, and what was the outcome?
  • Explain why attention to detail is important to you in your job.  What checking processes do you use throughout your working day?
  • Tell me about yourself?
  • What is your major achievement?
  • What do you consider yourself good at doing?
  • What do you think it takes to be successful in this career?
  • What are your strengths?
  • What are your weaknesses?
  • How would you approach this job?
  • How do you get things done?
  • How do you manage your day?
  • What motivates you?
  • Please describe your ideal job?
  • Please describe your ideal work environment?
  • Give me an example of one of your successful achievements.
  • How do you handle pressure?

  • What contribution do you make to a team? Can you give an example?

  • How do you react if you find that someone you work with does not like you?
  • Please describe a decision you had to make quickly.  What was your approach?
  • Describe your worst work environment?
  • Tell me about a time when you successfully handled a situation?
  • Tell me about a time when you felt that you dealt with a situation inadequately, and how has that changed how you would approach the same situation?
  • What specific goals have you established for your career?
  • Are your grades a true indication of your academic capability?
  • What do you think you can bring to this position?
  • What do you think you can bring to this company?
  • What sort of risks do you envisage this company is facing?
  • How do you see this job developing?
  • What sort of salary are you expecting?
  • What will it take to attain your goals, and what steps have you taken towards attaining them?

  • What decisions do you find easy to make?
  • What decisions do you find difficult to make?
  • Do you like to work in a team or on your own?
  • Why did you decide to seek a position in this field?
  • If offered the position, how long do you plan to stay at this company?
  • On taking this job, what would be your major contribution?
  • How do you get the best out of people?
  • How do you respond under stress?
  • Can you provide a recent example of when you were under stress, and how you coped?
  • What training would you require to be able to do this job?
  • Why attracted you to this company / firm?
  • What would you look forward to most in this job?
  • In your view, what are the major problems/opportunities facing the legal industry?
  • Describe an occasion when you adapted your own and the team's approach in response to rapidly changing demands.
  • What will be your key target in this job if we appoint you?
  • What makes you think you can be successful with us?
  • How does the job sound to you?
  • Which subjects did you enjoy during your qualifying degree?
  • Would you be able to relocate if necessary?
  • Have you always wanted to be a solicitor?

  • Can you give me a specific example of  a time when yu used good judgment and logic in solving a problem?
  • What sort of employment background do you have?
  • How do you manage your time?
  • Can you provide an example of an important goal which you had set in the past and tell me about your success in reaching it?
  • Have you applied anywhere else apart from us?
  • Have you had any other interviews apart from us?
  • Have you been offered a position yet?
  • How much notice would you need to give to your present employer if you were offered a position (only where applicable)?
  • Have you ever been abroad?
  • Have you ever worked within a multinational team?
  • Do you speak any other languages apart from English?
  • Give an example of a time in whcih you had to be relatively quick to come to a decision.  What was the situation and what was the outcome?
